Doing Things Together

Yesterday, a couple arrived from Tennessee. They came in early because they wanted to rent a boat and go fishing. The husband was a fisherman, but informed me his wife had never fished. "Well good," I said. "It can become your 'do-together' thing."
They reported last night that he had caught fish, but she hadn't. "She let one get away," he said. "But we had fun together," she said.
Another couple here this weekend is celebrating their 34th wedding anniversary. Their children, along with their first grandchild; are planning to come by later and they will probably go on a hike together.
The guests in Lodge #5 are having a Family Reunion. Seven siblings and their spouses are reconnecting this weekend because they told me they promised their parents before they died that they'd all get together at least once a year.
Another couple got in late last night after work, but they are in a canoe now, floating down the river together.
People frequently arrive and ask what there is to do here. I have many responses. Some families have no problem- they already do things together.

NO RAIN THROUGH THE WEEKEND

This morning's weather report was unusual- no rain through the weekend. This is my favorite time of year and you people are missing out if you don't have plans to gather at the river! The daytime temperatures are in the low 70's and the sun is shining while the nights drop down into the 40's- great sleeping weather. We've even enjoyed a full moon the last few nights and been able to see countless stars with no clouds in the sky. We took some family time last week between rain showers to drive to Boxley Valley and see the elk herd and you still have an opportunity to do that too if you come. Make time to get away---you'll be glad if you do.

Filling Up Fast for Thanksgiving

The sycamores are just beginning to turn yellow and we are definitely seeing spots of color on Turkey Mountain; the bluff overlooking the river.
Autumn is a special time on the river and the fishing is exceptional this time of year.
We have many customers who have made Thanksgiving at White Buffalo Resort a family tradition- as evidenced by the photo on the left! We have a few cabins still available; make your plans soon.

White Buffalo Round Up II

The "Sisters on the Fly" are being welcomed back to the White Buffalo Resort for the second time! These gals will pull their vintage trailers from around the country to camp with us, fly fish the White River, canoe the Buffalo, or horseback ride at Stone Creek Ranch. The dates are September 24-27. They claim "they have more fun than anyone" and obviously they did last spring! We look forward to another wonderful Fall weekend with this group of women.

Catch & Release

Posted by Picasa

We recently had a visit from Jim Tingey, angler, painter, conservationist and owner of Catch & Release Artwork; an alternate to the mount and photo method of commemorating that special catch. This was just one of the browns he caught and released while fishing our stretch of the river. If you are considering a great way to commemorate a young person's first fish or make a special gift for your favorite angler, visit catchandreleaseartwork.com.

Hitting the Airwaves!

In an effort to familiarize more people with our resort and the numerous opportunities for great fishing all year long, we have turned to radio advertising. You can listen to John's interview on The Outdoors Experience radio program by going to WIND-AM 560 and re-play the January 9, 2009 program. You can also tell your friends in the Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan areas to tune in on Saturday mornings from 8-9 a.m. We hope to entice some of the fishermen from "up North" who typically head to Canada to give the Ozarks a try instead!

This spring we also look forward to generating more interest in our area and our resort by running radio spots in the Hot Springs, El Dorado, Magnolia, and Arkadelphia areas with Noalmark Broadcasting Corporation. Keep your ears open...
