Learning to Fly Fish (once again...)

John and I are often dismayed at the lack of people out on the water in the winter- especially since we had such incredibly mild weather the last few months.

We have been wanting to learn to fly fish since we bought the resort and even took a continuing education class offered at ASU- Mtn. Home back in 2008 BF (before the flood). We never actually got out on the water after that to try our hand at it...until this past week when our resident fly fishing instructor Ron offered to show us the ropes and motivated us to go through all the steps from assembly of our rods, to practice casting in our field, and then "on the water" instruction on the gravel bar just below the campground.

The weather on Thursday was a gorgeous 77 degrees, but it was really windy so we were challenged (in a good way).

I landed a baby brown and John got a rainbow. That didn't even matter so much as the fact that we were out on the water and enjoying the best this area has to offer!

Call us to arrange a class for yourself the next time you visit.

Low Water on the White River

Praise God and Thank You Army Corps of Engineers, Bull Shoals Dam is SHUT DOWN today and our water is dropping steadily. After all the high water we've had in the last month, we are ready for the break. High water makes for great fishing, but it tends to scare off some of our more faint-hearted fishermen.

Just a quick plug- this is IDEAL water for fly fishing, we have two guests getting ready to go try their flies out now.

White Buffalo Round Up II

The "Sisters on the Fly" are being welcomed back to the White Buffalo Resort for the second time! These gals will pull their vintage trailers from around the country to camp with us, fly fish the White River, canoe the Buffalo, or horseback ride at Stone Creek Ranch. The dates are September 24-27. They claim "they have more fun than anyone" and obviously they did last spring! We look forward to another wonderful Fall weekend with this group of women.

Fly Fishing in November

These are just two of our favorite things...

First- we like it a lot when people come to the White River to fish and stay at our place,
and Second- we like to fry up their catch and serve them a traditional "shore lunch" complete with all the fixin's.

Slideshow of the resort

I got this slide show today from Christi with Sisters on the Fly. They are a group of fly-fisher women and retro trailer owners that will be visiting the White Buffalo Resort in May. The pictures are awesome and really give a good overview of what the resort looks like in winter. Click on the link below to watch the slideshow.
