"Our family wanted to thank you and your staff for a wonderful weekend on the White!  The White Buffalo Resort is absolutely amazing!  This is our second year to stay at your resort and we are pleased to say each time we have caught our limit of trout each day we have fished.  Our grandsons love the pool and playground and with the shallow depth of the pool “NeeNee” was able to sit back, relax, and enjoy too.

“Great place to stay and enjoy the White River (and Buffalo River too!)”

We stayed at White Buffalo for the first time in over 20 years recently. After poor experiences with outfitters in Cotter, this location could not be nicer. The new owners are VERY friendly and accommodating.

We stayed in a nice cabin, with kitchen and two baths. The water was hot and the beds were comfortable. We rented jon boats and trout fished for 2 full days. The dock hand is very knowledgeable about the boats and routinely goes above and beyond other places we have rented in the past.

There is a small store onsite that has tackle and some food. Get there early though as it closes at 6pm.

While we stayed in a cabin, it looks like they have everything from basic tent camping, to full hook-up sites to full accommodations.

The scenery is the icing on the cake at White Buffalo. There are +200' high limestone bluffs just across the river and the mouth of the Buffalo River is less than 1000' downstream.

This is a spectacular property that we will be returning to in the years to come.

Room Tip: Book early in peak season times as they were full when we visited.

A Summer Weekend Well Spent

Too busy to blog lately- a good thing, let me assure you. Just wanted to share this e-mail from a lady who visited us this weekend.

"Just wanted to let you know that we had the most amazing stay at the resort. So relaxing, peaceful and beautiful. I am recommending this place to everyone I know. We stayed at the #5 cabin “trophy”. Best vacation yet. We will be back I can promise you this.

The canoe trip was so much fun and the water was just right. Clear and refreshing.

Dear John and Eileen,

I just wanted to tell you how truly great our recent customer outing was. The accommodations were as always first class. Eileen, you and John's cooking is the essence of homemade. Finally, lets talk about the fishing. 2 boats, 5 guys and over 300 trout caught in 2 days! Need I say more. All of these things are why for 16 years I have been coming to the White Buffalo Resort on my own and with groups of twenty or more customers. You make it a home away from home and I know why ESPN called it one of the top five trout rivers in North America.

Dear Eileen & John,

Thanks VERY much for being such wonderful hosts on our recent visit to your resort !!! We all had a ROCK STAR time, including the wonderful cabin, excellent guides and great lunches. No wonder why you are so popular as a great family resort. My guess is that those whose missed our trip will want to come next time we head your way.

Thanks for having everything so well arranged and comfortable and WOW my son and I caught 74 Trout the first day and my brother Nick and his son caught over 60 Trout...where can you do this ??? Plus included a photo below as proof.

California Loves Arkansas.

A few weeks ago some family friends came out from California to stay with us for the first time. Here's some thoughts on the Ozarks from one of the girls. You can read the original post in her blog here:

"Aux Arks

Well I am in love.

Having just returned from my sojourn at The White Buffalo Resort, I must say how very impressed and not a little affected I was by my experience there. The simple beauty of the trees and rivers, the number of animals--ranging from armadillos and box turtles to squirrels, foxes and deer--that roam freely, and the sweeping peace of the place really showcases some of the highlights of the marvelous country that stretches throughout parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas, known as The Ozarks.

Unfortunately, I must say that my bad luck with cameras has struck once again, and I broke mine and Leah's camera on my very first day at the resort. (What is that, Leah? Number 5?) Therefore, I have no photos to display as documentation of our lovely trip.

I will say, however, that on returning home, I swiftly googled The Ozarks to find out more, and found some pretty interesting stuff. For example, that the word "Ozarks" is thought to be derived from a linguistic corruption of the French abbreviation "Aux Arks," (short for "of Arkansas"). Or that is was an abbreviation for "aux-arcs-en-ciel," French for "towards the rainbows", which are common sights in the region. (thanks, wikipedia.)

Making Memories

With sincere apologies, I write today's piece. I just "spaced it"
last week and did not get anything written. I left town to meet my family in
Buffalo City, Arkansas, at the White Buffalo Resort for a family wedding.
The third child of our first born got married on Saturday, June 28.
The ceremony took place beside the White River in northern
Arkansas. The bride, our granddaughter, chose this place because her father
and her uncle come to this river annually to trout fish. The New York Times
reports this area to be one of the ten best places in the U.S. to fish. Not
only that, this place nestled in the Ozark Mountains retains its original
natural beauty of a variety of trees, steep bluffs, and rippling streams. In
other words, it was a beautiful setting for a wedding.
The day before the wedding and the day after the wedding were
filled with sunshine and light breezes, but the day of the wedding began
with lightning, thunder, and driving rain. We thought it might be just a
short summer storm, but one look at the sky assured us that storm intended
to stay the day. The people who own the resort, John and Eileen Olwell, have
a weather radar which they watched closely for us. At 12:45 p.m., John came
to us and said, "You have a window. Do it now!" Which we did.
The rain held off long enough for us to share in a lovely wedding
ceremony. At the reception, held under a protective canopy, the rain came
again in sheets. By that time, however, everyone had their food and was
enjoying being together, honoring the newly married couple.
Perhaps your family is like mine-scattered about. So when an event
comes that draws the family members together, what a joy that is! This time
together reminded me again of the importance of the family unit. How vital
it is to get together, share experiences, build memories, take pictures, eat
and just talk for a while. We had a wonderful time. We can go back to our
daily responsibilities strengthened because we are part of a family. We are
not alone.
And by the way, if you would like to find a quiet, lovely place to
relax and appreciate the beauty of God's creation (and maybe fish for
trout), I strongly recommend the White Buffalo Resort on the White River in
Buffalo City, Arkansas.
